Grandma's Trying to Feed Me

Ha ha! Yesterday we had to go and buy a bunch of fruit, which would be fine, except I'm sure I can't eat it all. Then she went and bought mini eggs! *sigh* There needs to be pictures of grandmas holding offerings of food on that website called "This is Why You're Fat," lol!

Anyway, this m0rning I was somewhere between 192.4 and 195.0. My scale couldn't settle on anything.

This morning I had to get up early and drive my grandma to the hospital. Last night she was determined that if I drove her, something terrible was sure to befall me, and that she should probably take a taxi. Perhaps Grandma doesn't think much of my driving skills? But then this morning, as I was guiding her through all the crazy corridors of the hospital, she said, "I'm so glad you're here! I wouldn't have any idea where to go!" Heh.

Last night I saw a skunk in the corner of my yard. It was so cute! I guess I'm crazy--I like skunks. I like bats, too, since we're on the subject of animals that aren't generally thought of as cute. My husband chased it out of the yard, and it just waddled indignantly away. I've seen it before, but not for so long. I wish I'd taken a picture. I think I saw one on the way home from my friend's house on Saturday night, but it was a bit far away. At first I thought that one was a cat, but it was too flat and wide to be a cat.

  1. I think skunks and bats are pretty cute too! I have seen so many skunks in my hood this year; they never used to be a visible pressence, but they are all over the place now!

  2. I don't mind bats at all. One did get into the house last summer. I hung a blanket over the kitchen door, than ran around the house to open the back door. It flew out to eat millions of mosquitoes!
But skunks are another matter. One got under the house nine years ago and exploded under the kitchen. The next year, the same thing. We were searching for holes in the foundation. We got them sealed, we thought.
Then, seven years ago, a mama skunk gave birth under the house! DH had to catch the five babies and mama. He took them out to the woods. (My brother wanted them for his farm; but didn't want to drive the 45 minutes home with them in the back of his truck.)
We again looked for the hole. The next spring we found two more skunks trying to get under the house and finally found the tiny, little crack in the foundation (since repaired.)
Skunks are great at a distance. Just don't let them get under the house!

  3. They'd have to go pretty deep on account of our basement. What do you mean they "exploded?" I thought they only sprayed if they were scared.

I don't know where this li'l guy lives. I'm thinking maybe our shed, but it's possible it's not even in our yard. It's around here somewhere, though!

  4. Oh, they spray when scared, excited, defensive, attracting a mate, marking territory, eating a good meal of grubs and worms, hit by a car, seeing their shadow, etc.
